About the Role
SolidarMed is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the Primary Health Care (PHC) Project in Tanzania. This position is ideal for professionals with an academic background in Project Management and Public Health or Project Management and Medical Sciences. The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to strengthening health systems in underserved communities.
Project Overview
The Primary Health Care (PHC) Project aims to improve healthcare access for hard-to-reach populations in Malinyi District. Through mobile clinics, outreach programs, and facility-based quality improvement initiatives, the project supports local health authorities in delivering culturally appropriate and sustainable healthcare solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Project Implementation and Leadership
- Oversee the planning, execution, and monitoring of project activities.
- Develop and implement work plans and reports in line with project milestones and donor requirements.
- Establish and manage legal agreements, including MOUs with government authorities.
- Strengthen and expand project interventions based on local healthcare needs.
- Improve project quality through data-driven strategies and contribute to the planning of the second project phase, commencing in January 2026.
Human Resources, Finance, and Administration
- Lead, manage, and support the project team in Malinyi, including recruitment of new staff.
- Ensure efficient and transparent management of project resources, including human, financial, and material assets.
- Oversee budgeting, financial tracking, and cost optimization to ensure effective resource allocation.
Monitoring, Research, and Reporting
- Implement and oversee project monitoring frameworks to enhance data-driven decision-making.
- Lead operational research, evaluation studies, and contribute to scientific publications.
- Prepare high-quality reports for submission to relevant authorities and donors.
Partnerships, Representation, and Policy Engagement
- Collaborate with key stakeholders, including local health authorities and community leaders.
- Identify and establish new partnerships, networks, and funding opportunities.
- Represent SolidarMed in national and international forums to enhance visibility and advocacy.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications and competencies:
- Medical Doctor (MD) and/or Public Health Expert (MPH) with a minimum of five years of project management experience, including staff and financial management.
- Proficiency in digital project management and monitoring tools.
- Strong strategic planning, organizational, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex processes independently.
- Experience in budgeting, financial accountability, and optimizing cost allocations across multiple donors.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with a collaborative team-oriented approach.
- Knowledge and experience in implementation research, knowledge sharing, and scientific exchange.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); willingness to learn Kiswahili (knowledge of Kiswahili is an advantage).
